Workshop #

F-03

TITLE:

Fine Arts

DESCRIPTION:

Spend a day with three artist/ educators in discussing current issues involving visual imagery in the design world, altered book making and art as a visual language from a museum point of view.  These two hour workshops will allow for hands on as well as discussion of new and alternative ways to teach the current art curriculum in our classes.

The altered book is a rapidly growing art form in which the artist creates the “Art” that goes onto the page. It is a collage, an assemblage, a painting and a drawing all combined with design concepts onto the page or pages of an already existing book. This workshop will provide teachers with course objectives, a rubric, and assorted altered book assignments that can be incorporated into the curriculum for K-5, 6-8 and 9-12 grade learners.

Materials needed for the Altered Book portion of the day

1 – 2 old books per person. Book must be in “good” shape, this means the binding, the book back must be a ‘hard” back and the pages are in good condition. Old books are favored because of their distressed appearance, and provide character. New books also can be used with success.

Assorted markers, pencils and other mark-making tools

Glue sticks or adhesive glue

Buttons, lace, embellishments

Old photographs or pictures

Exacto- knife and scissors

Strong needles and thread (not mandatory but if you have some please bring)

Anything else you may think could be used.

Preparation in advance – be thinking of a “Theme” for your altered book, and come with materials that reflect your chosen “Theme”. You can also decide on your theme upon arriving at the workshop.
