Workshop #

M-01

TITLE:

Marilyn Burns Building a Foundation of Algebra

DESCRIPTION:

Building a Foundation of Algebra is a course to deepen the understanding of critical algebraic concepts for teachers of kindergarten through grade 6. It addresses, in depth, the mathematical content and instructional strategies necessary for developing students’ algebraic thinking. Participants explore what is meant by algebraic thinking and how algebraic concepts can be applied at grade levels. Building on instruction they are already providing in arithmetic, teachers learn through a series of problem solving investigations how to teach algebraic concepts and skills that involve symbols, variables, multiple representations, expressions, equations, graphing, and functions. Teachers will receive the appropriate grade-level book- grades K-2, 3-5 or 6-8 from the series, Lessons for Algebraic Thinking.
